Terms of service

Not yet reviewed by a lawyer. These terms describe honestly how the service works and what is and is not promised. They have not been reviewed against the consumer, financial-promotion or payment law that applies where you or we are, and that review has not happened.
1. What this is
Options Skew Analytics publishes statistics derived from end-of-day options data: implied volatility surfaces, skew, term structure, and historical percentiles. Using the site means agreeing to these terms.
2. Not investment advice
Nothing here is investment advice, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell any security. No statistic on this site takes account of your circumstances, objectives or risk tolerance, because the site knows none of them.
Options carry risk, including the total loss of the amount paid for them and, for some strategies, losses exceeding it. They are not suitable for every investor. Decisions you take are your own.
3. The data may be wrong
Data is end of day and is derived, not quoted: implied volatilities are solved from prices, forwards are inferred from put-call parity, and smiles are fitted. Every stage can fail, and a fitted number can be produced from bad inputs without looking wrong. The methodology sets out how each figure is computed and what is discarded.
The service is provided as is, with no warranty of accuracy, completeness, timeliness or fitness for any purpose. There is no promise of uninterrupted availability, and no liability is accepted for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, anything published here.
4. Accounts
An account is optional and exists only to hold a membership. You are responsible for the Google account used to sign in; anyone who controls it controls yours. Accounts are personal and must not be shared. We may suspend or close an account that is being shared, used to scrape the site, or used to break these terms.
5. Donations
Nothing on this site is for sale at present. Every page is open to everyone, and a donation is a gift, not a purchase. It buys no service, unlocks nothing, carries no entitlement of any kind, and creates no obligation on our part.
In particular, a donation is not an advance payment for the membership described below, and does not reserve, discount or guarantee one.
Donations are not refundable. A cryptocurrency transfer cannot be reversed, and a gift is not a transaction to be undone. If you sent one by mistake, write to us and we will do what we reasonably can, but nothing here promises a refund.
We intend to offer a paid membership later, covering the cross-sectional screener and the full depth of history, leaving individual ticker pages free. That is an intention, not a commitment, and these terms will be updated before anything is sold.
Donations are in cryptocurrency, sent directly to an address shown on the site. Therefore:
- A transfer cannot be reversed, by us or by anyone. There is no chargeback. A transfer to the wrong address, or on the wrong network, is lost, and we cannot recover it.
- You are responsible for sending to the right address, on the right network. Check both before sending, and send a small test amount if unsure.
- There is no amount to get right. Any amount is a donation, and none of them changes what the site gives you.
6. Telling us about a donation
After sending, you submit the transaction hash. A person checks it against the chain and then approves or rejects it. Approval is a human judgement, not an automated one, and the stated turnaround is a target rather than a guarantee.
A payment is approved when we can see it on the chain, to an address we published, for the plan claimed. A claim may be rejected if the transaction cannot be found, has not confirmed, is for less than the plan price, was already used for another account, or does not appear to be a payment for this service. A rejection is not a refusal to refund — nothing was charged, and if funds did arrive we will say so and put it right.
Approval adds the plan term to whatever time is left, so paying early loses nothing.
7. Refunds
If we fail to deliver what was paid for — the membership is not granted, or the service is unavailable for a prolonged period within a paid term — write to us and we will refund a fair share of the term, in the same cryptocurrency, to an address you give.
Otherwise memberships are non-refundable, because payment is irreversible in both directions and the data is fully described before purchase. Where consumer law where you live grants you a cancellation right, that right applies regardless of this paragraph.
8. Fair use
Read the site, use the figures in your own work, and quote them with attribution. Do not scrape it wholesale, resell or redistribute the data as a dataset or feed, or use it to build a competing service. Do not attempt to circumvent the membership gate or to disrupt the service for others.
9. Changes and ending
These terms may change; the date at the top changes with them, and anyone with an active membership will be told by email if a change materially affects them. Prices and plans may change, but never for a term already paid for.
You may close your account at any time. If we close yours other than for a breach of these terms, we will refund the unused part of any paid term.
10. Governing law
Not yet decided, and left blank rather than guessed. It must be set before the site is made public.
